Murray Perahia
Q: I hated practicing as a kid – it was always such a chore. What was practicing like for you when you were young, and how do you feel about it now? (Laura Stancik, Ann Arbor, MI)
A: "I found subterfuges for practicing like putting on records and telling my grandmother I was practicing and actually going out and playing ball. But now I get a lot of refreshment in a way from practicing because I don't like to practice tediously; I like to practice like I'm playing and enjoying the piece of music that I'm playing, so it's an enjoyment for me."
